The Neighborhood

Downtown Wausau offers a captivating blend of history and culture with a theater, art galleries and museums. Specialty shops and inviting restaurants line the charming pedestrian-friendly streets in a lively atmosphere that inspires exploration. Scenic views of Rib Mountain and nearby waterfront parks are all within walking distance of the Foundry on 3rd.

The Key Initiatives

Wausau Opportunity Zone (WOZ) collaborates with local governments, businesses and community organizations to enhance the quality of life in the greater Wausau region. Their current focus is on Foundry on 3rd with developer T. Wall Enterprises and general contractor Stevens Construction Corp., both headquartered in Wisconsin.

Other exciting developments in downtown Wausau include the opening of Children’s Imaginarium in 2023, Aspirus Family Physicians in 2022 and Woodson YMCA with major renovations in 2019. Meanwhile, the award-winning Wausau River District has evolved as a popular destination for entertainment, arts, business and residential.

Development Updates

  • Three floors are framed on the south half of the Foundry on 3rd as the fourth floor is underway. It takes approximately two weeks to construct a floor so the fifth floor on the south half should start mid-November.
  • The first floor is framed on the north half of the building. The second floor started the last week of October followed by the third floor in mid-November.
  • The concrete columns and footings supporting the skywalk bridge have been installed. They await structural steel components, which will arrive in November, to start connecting the Foundry building and the parking ramp.
  • Windows and doors will start arriving in early November.
